This Place Rocks!

START:                      Park City, Utah           TODAY:      199   Miles
END:                          Moab, Utah                 TOTAL:   3,661   Miles
CAMPGROUND:      Canyonlands RV Park

Leaving Park City we tried to imagine the winter view with skiers flying down these slopes.  Our morning drive was winding roads through the Cascades Mountain and Provo Peak.

At times the mountain peaks were very rocky, then a mile later the vista would change to green, undulating hills.    We questioned what ecological or climatic elements played a part in  developing the differences.  Entering Provo it was obvious we were now in a more upscale area.  It was a lovely town, beautifully landscaped and the home of  Brigham Young U.

Driving US6 W/SW the land became flatter with distant ridges and canyon-like ravines.  The area was very dry and the only sign of civilization was train tracks and telephone poles.  As a matter of fact, it appeared to be a perfect place to test the moon rover!
Seeing multiple trains with 100-150 cars peaked our interest.  It turns out that the Moab area used to mCopper are currently mined.
As we near the exits for Arches NP the terrain took on the iconic features associated with Utah; red mountains with craggy and oddly balance rocks. We settled into the Canyonlands RV Park in Moab then explored the city and washed our ash-covered Jeep.  After an early dinner we headed for Arches NP - sunset is supposed to be stunning.  Well, in two hours I took 157 photos - then spent 20 minutes deleting 100 of them.   We have all seen images of Arches National Park, but only if you stand on the spot do you appreciate the scale of Mother Nature's work.  It was an amazing two hours!  No more words - just photos.

This was the 1/2 trail to see Delicate Arch.  .  .

This is it for tonight - will return to Arches for sunrise tomorrow morning.  Will leave you with just one more photo - sunset over Salt Valley.
