JUNE 13, 2017
START: Visalia, CA TODAY: 293 Miles
END: Groveland, CA TOTAL: 3,768 Miles

An hour down the road at
Oakhurst we took a sharp left toward Mariposa.
John Lennon was singing “Imagine” on Sirius as we passed small towns
with populations of 250-1,000. Then on
Hwy 120 we experienced a whole new level of white-knuckle cutback turns with
sharp drop-offs and rock ledges.

The road
appeared to fall off the cliff, but over the hillside we could see the road double back on itself. Thankfully Ron was at the wheel and was able
to ignore my reaction as we rounded the curves with shear drop-offs and no
guardrails. Holy Moly!

Settled into Yosemite Pines campground we ate a
quick lunch then headed to the park. It
was 20 miles to the west entrance of Yosemite, then we drove another 50 miles
to reach Glacier Point. Snow was still on the ground
in shaded areas and Tioga Pass is still closed. Washburn Point was an expansive view featuring three
landmarks; Bridal Veil Falls, Half Dome and El Capitan.

Glacier Point, the highest point of the day,
glistened as the sunlight reflected off the snow-capped mountains.
This was a perfect place for a “selfie”, but
some folks just can’t help themselves.
Our final stop for the day required a short hike
to the base of Bridal Veil Falls. We were
so close the air was heavy with mist from the spray. The light cooperated forming a rainbow at the base.
On our way back to the camper, we stopped at a
car jam realizing there was a bear in the meadow. What a treat!
Ron captured the sunset as
left the park not arriving home until 9:00 p.m.
A long day, but amazing!
